Beavers celebrate Kodomo no Hi

Children's Day (Kodomo no Hi) is a Japanese national holiday which takes place annually on May 5, the fifth day of the fifth month, and is part of the Golden Week. This is a national holiday to celebrate the happiness of all children and to express gratitude toward mothers.

On this day, families raise carp-shaped koinobori flags, with one carp for the father, one for the mother, and one carp for each child.

The Beavers learnt all about Kodomo no Hi before preparing their own carp flags that were hung in the Scout Hut.

By taking part in this activity and learning about the celebration, each Beaver has completed a requirement for their World Challenge Award which will go on to support their Chief Scout’s Bronze Award, the highest award a Beaver can achieve.
